About depression
The term depression has been used for a wide variety of issues, such as sadness, reactions to certain circumstances in life and even other emotional disorders. Depression, in fact, however, is an affective disorder that involves changes in brain neurotransmitters and presents with reduced mood, reduced energy and impaired activities in general.
Depression and sadness have different characteristics. Sadness is a universal, natural and physiological feeling that expresses pain or suffering and, unlike depression, does not significantly compromise other mental functions or the overall functioning of the individual.
Like any emotional disorder, depression can affect anyone, regardless of their bank account, power status or fame. How many people seem to live in a state of happiness on the surface, when in fact they constantly feel deep suffering, emptiness, loneliness?
Depression affects twice as many women as men and can be classified into degrees: mild, moderate and severe. It must be treated properly and as soon as possible and the other person's understanding of being "silly", "lack of what to do" or that words like "let's get it going" or "think positive" just drive the person further away, who needs effective help.
Hospitalization in cases of depression occurs when the patient is already being treated in the office and the result does not appear. Suicide attempts, inability to get out of bed, to work and even to take any type of medication are other indications that hospitalization should be done as soon as possible.
With hospitalization, the patient reaches stabilization of the profile. This achievement protects them from suicide attempts or from unproductivity, a situation that is common in patients who do not seek treatment or with inadequate treatment for the severity of their situation.
Some symptoms of depression are:
- Discouragement and crying;
- Persistent feeling of sadness, anguish and/or emptiness;
- Loss of ability to feel pleasure;
- Low self-esteem;
- Suicide plan or attempt;
- Thoughts about death or suicide;
- Decreased libido;
- Insecurity, fears and indecision;
- Restlessness, anxiety or irritability;
- Lack of meaning in life;
- Chronic pain or diffuse and persistent physical symptoms;
- Insomnia or excessive sleepiness.

Our treatment programs incorporate the combination of therapies that use the speech as a rehabilitation tool, clinical medical and psychiatric treatments and complementary therapies with integrative practices to help balance body and mind.
Novo Nascer treatments are specifically orchestrated to help identify when, where and why depression has set in and has developed in the individual's life and teaches the person to identify and absorb new psychological tools that will enable the person to live in a way that reaches their potentials.
We will unveil together with the patient the impact that the state of depression has brought on their life and how his way of seeing the world and their lifestyle are directly connected with health and well-being.
